Learn how to write a product review blog post that gets massive engagement!
Writing a product review blog post isn’t at the top of anyone’s list for “epic” content. It can be, though, if you use the right strategies when writing it!
Are you a new blogger struggling to get your content noticed? Or maybe you’ve been blogging for awhile now, but your subscriber list has plateaued, and you’re not sure how to get your content in front of new readers?
Don’t fret, my friends, I’m going to show you how one blog post, will not only get your blog noticed, but also get readers excited enough about your content to share your post, and subscribe to your email list!
By the way, this post contains affiliate links, so if you click on them, I may receive a small commission which helps me pay the bills, so thanks!
Now, let’s do this.
The Ultimate Product Review Post
A review post, really? I’m sure you’re wondering why you even got your hopes up, but stay with me. I’m not talking about any review post, I’m talking about your ultimate review post.
This review post is going to get read and shared, and you ARE going to get subscribers when it goes live.

1. Find The Ultimate Product
The first step is finding the right product to review. This might take a little homework, but trust me, it is key to getting your readers to pay attention.
Find a product or service in your niche, that is popular right now.
- Scroll through your home page on your social media accounts, and take note of the ads that are displayed.
- Check the websites of merchants in your niche to see what products they are featuring on their homepage.
- Check out Amazon’s top sellers in your niche. Use this link to go straight to their best-sellers, and has a ton of other useful information.
Your review post will get more attention if you’re writing about a product that everyone is talking about. If they’ve been seeing ads recently for the product you choose, your readers are going to want to know what you think.
If they’ve been thinking about purchasing the product, your review will help them make the decision to buy, or not buy.
2. Include A Discount
If at all possible, find a discount, for the product that you are reviewing.
Whether your giving a 5-star review or not, telling readers about ways to save on your product will be appreciated.
If you’re using affiliate links in your post (learn more about affiliate marketing here), offering a discount builds trust with your reader, and makes them more likely to take action with your link instead of going directly to the merchant.
A discount is also a great tool for adding subscribers to your email list. By adding a CTA (call-to-action) button to access the discount, gets readers to give up their email address in exchange for access to your discount. They will appreciate you doing the price-shopping for them, and you gain a subscriber. ChaChing.
3. Host A Product Giveaway
So far, if you’ve followed the above tips, you’ve got the reader’s attention, and you’ve offered a discount in exchange for their email addresses. That’s pretty good for a simple review post!
But you can do better, and take your post from good to ultimate. What do consumers want more than a discount? How’s about a freebie, for one lucky reader?
Hosting a giveaway that’s connected to your review post, will get readers excited and get them engaged! They will give up their email address, share your post on their social media accounts, follow your social media accounts, and yes, you can (and should) ask them to do all of those things.
Viralsweep is a great tool for offering giveaways or sweepstakes on your blog, and their free version has everything you need to host as many giveaways as you want.

4. Rinse & Repeat
Now that you know how to boost traffic, post shares, and subscribers with one blog post, you’re probably going to start writing reviews regularly. This could get expensive, especially depending on your niche.
Don’t get discouraged…I’ve got you covered!
Get Free Products To Review & Give Away To Readers
Yes, you read that correctly, you can get free products to review and give away to your readers! Plus, you can even make money each time a reader uses your links to purchase an item.
Get started with affiliate marketing, and you’ll have opportunities to receive free products and services from your merchants, in exchange for your review posts.

How dop you get free products to review. I have a beauty blog and brands don’t like to send out frrebies until you have a large audience.
Hi Erica,
I am sending you an email about this. It’s all about how you pitch them and targeting the right brands.
Congrats on your blog, and you should see my email soon.
I have been blogging since 2010 and over the years have written loads of reviews. I am more selective than I used to be. I only have so much time and only bother with products I am really interested in. I find that if I can write a tutorial or a recipe post with a product it gets more traffic than just a plain old review. I write a lot of sponsored posts now and some pay very well. I especially like posts about food since my main focus now is being more of a foodie blogger. I write a lot for Influence Central and Social Fabric and just wrote my first post for Linqia. Here is a link to my linqia post. http://www.homeecathome.com/the-home-economist/the-best-on-the-go-healthy-treat-vitatops-muffintops
Hi Faith!
That is a great tip, offering a tutorial to go along with the review post. I agree..only review products that you’re interested in, and obviously, make sure they’re in your niche, otherwise you will end up with a lot subscribers that aren’t even interested in your blog.
Congrats on your post with Linqia. I usually edit out any self-promo links in comments, but since it’s your first post with Linqia, let’s get some extra traffic there 🙂
Thanks for your feedback! I hope to hear more from you. Good luck!

Thanks for sharing your tips on writing a review post. I’ve read other review post tips but none that offered links which I found to be really helpful. I’m an Amazon junkie so I think I could be really successful at this. I just launched my blog and only have 3 posts up and running so far but it’s full steam ahead from here on out. So I’m excited to take on the challenge of writing a review post to boost my traffic!

Thanks KataRina:) Very nice of you!

That is a great way of generating traffic. I am very close to hitting 5 K on Instagram and just hit 1 K on Twitter so I will be planning a giveaway soon. Not sure what yet though!
That’s great! Email me if you need ideas. angel@nextlevelblogging.com
Great tips!
Very useful suggestions – reviews add value to both parties. We also do many curated posts. With so much of content around, the ability to cull out info is appreciated by readers.
Good tips – and I love it that so many bloggers are getting into reviewing. It’s fun getting to see what kinds of products they like using, and I love having the feedback when it comes to making purchasing decisions. I’d love doing more product reviews on my own blog as well – it’s fun trying out new stuff!
Review posts are definitely helpful as long as they are well written and aren’t just a commercial for the product! I want to know the quirks and the good things about the product.
Offering a discount as a lead generator is a great idea! I’ll have to try that!
Thanks Steve! Yes, we want the real review, not just a sales pitch.
Great food for thought! My readers do like peronal reviews on relevant items. I just have to choose carefully.
True. That’s what’s great about FlexOffers, they have so many merchants available, you’ll always find something relevant and they let you know about great deals with their top merchants!
This is awesome to know, thank you! I do like doing giveaways now and again.
Thanks Amber!
I haven’t tried hosting a giveaway yet since there’s nothing to give away for now. 😀 But it’s already in my list. Would you have tips on how to grow email lists?

Absolutely. Thanks Robin!
Nice article
Thanks for stopping by!
As a long time blogger, I’ve tried all of the above, however, I’m very mindful of what I choose to review on my blogs. There are benefits and drawbacks to these approaches but, for a beginner blogger, these tips could be helpful… All the best with your launch! 🙂
Thanks Elizabeth! If you have some tips that you use to boost traffic, I’d love to get your input. I’m always looking for new ideas myself, and it seems everyone has something different that works for them.

I will definitely have a think about these points. I have tried giveaways etc and not really found that they garnish many results.
Sometimes these things are so simple, but we don’t think about them
Great ideas for bloggers!
Thank you!
I feel the same way. Then all of a sudden, bam! It’s all so clear. I’m glad to have helped.
Thanks for the info!! I’m not quite sure how I’d write a review post that would “fit” my page (it’s an inspirational/motivational life blog) haha but regardless, good to know the tips on affiliates and whatnot and if I can figure out a way to write a review post that fits down the road, I will! Thank you!
